What is Adventure Camp? Adventure Camp is about exploration and inspiration in a safe, supportive (and creative!) environment. The goal? To create a lasting change in your life, whereby your relationship to your adventurous spirit is forever altered and enhanced. I've collaborated with experts in a variety of fields (people who also happen to be excellent teachers and love sharing their joy and knowledge with others) to custom design an eclectic mix of traditional and not-so-traditional adventures. These are adventures anyone can enjoy with the tools and talents they already have. Regardless of your age or physical ability, Adventure Camp will support you to expand what is possible in your life. You'll spend each workshop in the company of like-minded individuals with whom you'll enjoy an ongoing dialogue about what it means to live your own version of adventure. We function as a family on each trip, sharing stories of the day's adventures after dinner each night, supporting and challenging each other to bring our adventurous discoveries home. I'll travel with each group as adventure coach and facilitator, adding a unique "Everyday Adventure" perspective to these already rich itineraries. Explore the list of Adventure Camps below, and see what calls forth your passion or curiosity. Pay attention for that little spark of interest (especially the one immediately dampened by "Oh, I couldn't do that" -- transcending doubt and discovering your own sense of adventure is what these camps are all about!). For information on any of the camps, simply follow the links at the bottom of each listing. And if you have ideas for other things in life you would like to explore, please email and let me know. I'm always interested in hearing about other potential adventures! By the way, I'd love to meet you in person, so feel free to attend any of the various events we have scheduled. Join me for a hands-on creativity adventure in which you'll express yourself with molten glass. Under the tutelage of master artisans, we'll learn the basics of glass blowing and flameworking. No experience or artistic ability is necessary. On this creativity retreat, each participant will blow their own glass vessel and make flameworked beads and objects. Renowned local crafts people will teach us the techniques we need to safely work with the medium. Throughout the day, we will work in different small groups, with just four or eight people to an instructor. Each evening, we'll eat dinner together while we reminisce about the day's adventures and discuss ways to bring the spirit of our newfound creativity back into our everyday lives. Why glass blowing? Because it will fill you with a sense of fascination and wonder. And because it's fun! We'll eat, sleep, learn, explore and create, all at the wonderful Snow Farm Craft Center, in Williamsburg, MA. Three meals and residential dorm accommodations are included (some single rooms are available). This workshop is limited to 16 total participants, so sign up today to reserve your spot in front of the fire... and for an adventure of creative self expression! Camp If you liked the chapter full of natural adventures in "A New Adventure Every Day," then this trip is for you. We will travel to Iceland's remote Western Fjords for 10 days, where we'll visit with local geologists, birders and biologists who will help us discover Iceland's natural wonders. The itinerary gives us enough science to keep us fascinated, yet not so much that it becomes overly technical. Fundamentally, we'll be looking for a strong connection with nature on each day of the trip. So whether we soak in a geothermal pool, ride a raft down a deep canyon river, watch geysers erupt, or learn about Puffins, we'll be seeking a deeper understanding of the peace that can be found in the natural world. In collaboration with one of the best Icelandic travel services, I have put together an array of interesting local speakers who will share the essence of Iceland. Some nights, we'll stay in comfortable inns. Others, we'll spend with different families on farms around the countryside. This is not a whirlwind tour of Iceland that has you jumping in and out of tour buses. Instead, this trip will provide ample time to savor the way that glacial ice reflects the light and to walk on a beach of lava rocks that have been eroded and polished by ocean waves. Join me for an exploration of the true essence of elemental Iceland, a world of fire and ice. Space is limited to 16, so register soon! For a detailed itinerary, sign up for an informational mailing. We travel to leading craft centers in America, where we will live, play, and eat as a group while we immerse ourselves in an artistic journey of self-expression and pure creative fun. On these retreats free from the daily distractions of your regular routine, we'll spend the day immersed in the adventure of creating art. We'll start slowly and explore what it means to have complete freedom to create on paper, canvas or with clay, without concern for "proving" anything or making something recognizable. Guided by nurturing and inspired instructors, we'll examine the ways in which our inner critic often stifles the creativity that lives inside each of us. We'll explore a range of different crafts and discover for ourselves the joy of working in a variety of media. These are hands-on workshops led by professional artists and teachers. Whether you're already an artist or haven't created anything since popsicle-stick art in kindergarten, this approach to the creative process minimizes frustrating roadblocks that beginners and professional artists alike sometimes face. During these workshops, you'll discover (or recover!) the sensation of creating art simply for the pure pleasure of expressing yourself - free from the pressure to please anyone else. Between sessions in the art studio, I'll facilitate group discussions about how fear often gets in the way of creative self-expression. We will also explore what it takes to bring your newly discovered creative spirit back into everyday life, whether you are a full-time artist or you work on Wall Street. Everyone can expand his or her creative horizons on these retreats. All you need to do is show up with a willingness to explore your creative spirit. All art supplies are included. I've selected great facilities and terrific teachers to take care of the rest. This workshop provides a safe environment where you can embark on a journey to discover just how creative you truly are.
